Niigata / Sado

Niigata Prefecture is located on the Japan Sea coast of Honshu, and is conveniently accessible from Tokyo by the Joetsu Shinkansen. Niigata Prefecture is known for its ski resorts, national parks, and many hot springs, and offshore is Sado Island, the largest remote island in the Sea of Japan.
Gourmets love Niigata Prefecture for its delicious rice, sake, and fresh seafood from the Sea of Japan (Nodoguro, tuna, sweet shrimp, etc.).
In spring, there are cherry blossom viewing spots such as famous Takada Castle (Joetsu City). And in summer, marine sports on the beautiful Sea of Japan. Also in autumn, you can enjoy the spectacular autumn leaves of Akiyamago and skiing in winter throughout the year. In addition, there are 144 hot spring resorts in Niigata Prefecture, where you can enjoy many open-air baths.
Sado Island, a remote island, was  Japan's largest gold-producing region and was under the direct control of the Tokugawa Shogunate in the Edo period (1603-1868). Many people from all over Japan migrated to the island, and the island has inherited the culture of western Japan and the traditional culture and performing arts of eastern Japan. In the outdoors, you can enjoy scuba diving and fishing in some of the clearest waters in Japan, as well as marine activities such as boarding a "tub boat," a specialty of Sado Island, and on land, you can enjoy cycling and trekking in the great outdoors.
Joetsu City, located in the southwestern part of Niigata Prefecture, is a highly convenient transportation hub, with Takada Joshi Park and other cherry blossom viewing spots in spring, beautiful sunsets over the Sea of Japan and marine sports in summer, and the port of Naoetsu, which connects to Kanazawa and Karuizawa, as well as to Sado Island.
Niigata Prefecture is a popular tourist area with hot springs, gourmet food, and experiences that will make you want to visit again and again.
