Iwate
Iwate Prefecture is located on the coast of the Tohoku region and covers an area as large as Japan's Shikoku region. The town of Hiraizumi, located in the southern part of the prefecture, flourished as the political center of the Tohoku region in the 11th and 12th centuries, and many historical sites, such as Chuson-ji and Motsu-ji, still remain. Tono City, known for "Tales of Tono," is the birthplace of many folktales.
Iwate Prefecture, which attracts many tourists throughout the year, is home to numerous attractions, such as the Abei Kogen Ski Resort, Morioka Castle Ruins Park, and Hachimantai Onsenkyo Hot Spring Resort.
The Sanriku region, located on the coast, is also rich in scenic beauty, including Jodogahama, a national scenic beauty spot, Kitayamazaki, and Ryusendo Cave, as well as seafood, as it is home to Sanrikuoki, one of the three largest fishing grounds in the world.
In addition, Morioka City, the prefectural capital, was selected as the second best place to visit in the New York Times "52 Places to Go in 2023" list, which has become a hot topic. Morioka City offers a variety of local delicacies such as "Morioka cold noodles," "wanko soba," and "jaja noodles.
In this way, Iwate Prefecture is an area where visitors can enjoy a trip full of history, spectacular scenery, and gourmet food.
